브루클린 (Brooklyn), 브롱크스(Bronx) 그리고 퀸즈(Queens)를 뜻하는 이름의 BB & Q Band는 밴드 ‘Change‘를 발굴한 신의 손 ‘Jacques Fred Petrus‘에 의해 1981년 미국 뉴욕에서 만들어져 단 5년간 황금같은 트랙들을 쏟아낸 후 해체된 Post-disco 훵크 그룹이다.
오늘 가져온 트랙은 그들의 마지막 앨범에 수록된 ‘Dreamer’의 약 7분에 달하는 12인치 싱글 컷 버전으로, 퍼커션 – 드럼 – 신디사이저 – 베이스 – 보컬 – 기타 순으로 단단하고 리드미컬하게 쌓여가는 악기와 달콤한 멜로디, 흔한 사랑이야기가 아닌 ‘꿈’에 관해 읊조리는 가사들이 말 그대로 리스너에게 꿈을 꾸는듯한 즐거움을 선사한다.
그들의 또 다른 히트곡으로는 보다 발랄한 비트의 데뷔 싱글 “On the Beat”이 있다.
BB & Q Band, which takes its name from the regions Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens, is a post-disco funk group active for five years since its beginnings in 1981 and releasing a number of truly golden music. Jacques Fred Petrus was the creator of this group, a man with the midas touch that found the band ‘Change’.
Today’s track is the 7-minute long, 12” single cut version of the song ‘Dreamer’ from their last album. It progresses with the percussion coming first, to drums, synths, bass, vocals, and then guitars, the instruments steadily building up a sweet melody and singing of ‘dreams’ instead of the generic love song, presenting the listener with a dreamlike experience.
One of the other hits by the band include the debut single ‘On the Beat’, a song with more bouncy beats.
